The Drama Department at Forrester is very much a thriving place where active learning is a key focus of the Department’s work. There is one member of teaching staff, supported by a Curriculum Leader. From S1 students get a chance to learn a variety of skills in their weekly drama lessons such as co-operation, confidence, creativity and communication. From S2 upwards, pupils also get access to the of state of the art technology in the Department, such as a sound mixing desk and Juggler lighting control desk.
There is a fully equipped drama studio with a lighting rig, which has three different types of stage lanterns, a props and costume store and make-up resources., allowing pupils to design and create their own plays at various levels. There is the opportunity to use the faculty recording studio, to record radio plays and add a range of effects to enhance their performances.
In 2013, Drama Club students performed at the first Edinburgh Peace Festival and also in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a production of ‘Us and Them’ by David Campton. In the past, the Drama Club students have performed at The Lyceum Theatre. Theatre trips are a regular occurrence for students at all stages, as well as backstage tours and occasionally workshops from visiting companies.
