I am writing to introduce myself as the new Headteacher of Forrester High School and to thank those parents and carers I have already met for the warm welcome I received. I am delighted and extremely privileged to be here. I look forward to getting to know everyone much better and to working with you to ensure that all pupils are able to make the best of their time at Forrester.
Reflecting on my first two weeks, I see that there are many great things happening at Forrester. This is thanks to the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm and participation of our pupils and the support we receive from home.
Spring Concert
Our Spring Concert on Wednesday provided an opportunity for pupils to showcase the work they have been doing in the Performing Arts. I was particularly impressed by the level of performances of a wide range of young people and I understand the dedication and hard work that it has taken to get them to this point. I know that this was a great team effort, so thanks to Miss Sheail and to everyone who supported.
S6 Last Day Celebration
On Friday, I was treated to the S6 Last Day Celebration with cakes and coffee and croissants. During this most enjoyable celebration, I was most impressed by our S6 pupils’ respect for each other and their spirit of togetherness. I have not had long to get to know them but already I can see that they are an outstanding group of young people who are a credit to themselves, their families and the school. I have no doubt that they will go on to do great things, and I wish them all the best.
S2 Football
On Saturday morning, our S2 Football team sealed victory in the league with a win over Firrhill. Although I missed the second half, I did see the boys score 3 goals and I was impressed by their individual skills and great team ethic. The Forrester boys went on to win 8 -1 – Mr MacPhie’s halftime team talk must have been a good one!
Duke of Edinburgh
On Sunday, our Duke of Edinburgh team returned from a two-day expedition in the Pentland Hills. This included an 18 kilometre hike on Saturday, an overnight camp at Bonaly, followed by a further 12 kilometre hike to finish at 3:30pm on Sunday. Mrs Ramsay tells me they were all exhausted by the time they finished – thank goodness for the Monday holiday!
Senior Phase Assessment Time
I would like to wish all senior pupils every success at this busy time of year – whether they are working to complete course work and unit assessments or preparing for external exams. Please help them to manage stress levels and encourage them to keep hydrated and to get enough sleep.
Finally, a reminder that the new timetable begins on 5th June.
Many thanks.
