Dear Parents and Carers
Last week was another busy week, with prelims in full swing and a wide range of activities on offer – including a victory for the basketball team and a visit by author, Elizabeth Wein, as part of our commemorations for Holocaust Memorial Day.
Please find a few quick updates below.
Course Choice
Coursing for S2 into S3 and for the senior phase is well underway, and it was great to welcome S2 parents, on Thursday 12th, and S3-5 parents, on Thursday 26th, to share information. You will find the presentation notes on the Curriculum Page of our website. We have also added the presentations from Skills Development Scotland and Edinburgh College, so you can view these in more detail. Our Careers page (within the Student Zone) also has a wide range of useful information and links which will support students to make good choices linked to future goals.
Careers Fair
It is never too early to find out more about the changing world of work and what opportunities will be available at the end of your school journey. All parents and carers are invited to our Careers Fair on Monday 6th February from 4:30pm – 6:30pm. Please come along and find out more about routes into Further and Higher Education, work, or training – including Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships. Everyone is welcome.
Visit of MSPs on Monday
On Monday 30/1/23, we will be joined by members of the Scottish Parliament to take part in a Question Time style debate. Some of our sharpest political brains (S4-6 Modern Studies classes) will put the MSPs through their paces, and I’m sure there will be no easy questions here.
Visit to Robotarium at Herriot Watt University
On Tuesday 31st January, students from S3 Computing classes will visit the National Robotarium at Herriot Watt University, where they will get up close and personal with some of the world’s leading artificial intelligence. How times have changed – I remember the days when we used to just send classes to visit the zoo!
S3 Parents’ Evening
I look forward to meeting parents on Wednesday 1st of February for the S3 parents’ Evening. If you have not already booked your place, please do so through the Parent Evening Booking Service or call the school office if you need some support.
