Head Teacher Update 25/5/22

Dear Parents and Students

In case you haven’t heard, Saturday is Cup Final Day – no not that cup final but the Lothian Schools’ League Cup Final involving a certain team from Forrester. The S2 boys, coached by Kieran Millar, have been outstanding ambassadors for the school at home and on their travels. They were unbeaten in the league and narrowly missed out on being crowned league champions after an entertaining 3 -3 draw with first place George Watsons. Although I’m sure they will go on to more glory next year, the League Cup is their last opportunity to lift some silverware this season. So, if you have a spare 90 minutes (plus extra time) please come and give the boys your support.

As Kayden’s poster (displayed all over the school and below) shows:

Date: Saturday 28th May

Kick-off: 9:30am

Venue: Meggetland

Thanks and best wishes

Stephen Rafferty

Head Teacher

P.S. Many thanks to students and parents for your great support with uniform as we began the new timetable this week. This has made a visible difference to the way we look and feel as a school and to the value we place on learning.

Head Teacher Update 18/5/22

Dear Parents and Students

I am writing to share some important information for the start of our new timetable on Monday 23rd May. We are starting the timetable early this year to give everyone the best possible chance to make progress in their new courses. The new timetable also gives us all an opportunity to reset and make a fresh start, with the majority of COVID measures hopefully behind us. (more…)

Head Teacher Update 10/5/22

Dear Parents and Students

Two weeks have already passed since we returned from the Easter Holiday, and the SQA exams are in full swing. I am so proud of all our senior students for working hard to prepare for exams and approaching these in such a positive manner. I am also extremely grateful for the extra work our staff put in over the Easter Holidays, to ensure students were ready and that they could go into these exams with more confidence. In addition to the study support guidance already shared, parents may like to have a look at materials and advice on the Parentzone Scotland website. (more…)

Head Teacher Update 27/2/22

Dear Parents and Students

The continuation of self-isolation rules means that we are still seeing high levels of staff and student absence. However, with the changes to other restrictions, I am optimistic that we are gradually returning to more normal ways of working. It has been a long hall for everyone but, at last, things are beginning to ease. This update contains information about: (more…)

Head Teacher Update 13/2/22

Dear Parents and Students

The half-term break has come just in the nick of time, giving everyone a chance to catch their breath and to recharge their batteries. The first six weeks of term have been as difficult as any since the pandemic began. High levels of staff and student absence have meant that learning has been disrupted and disjointed. Although we were not always able to put staff with the correct subject specialism in front of classes, I am pleased to say that we managed to remain open throughout. We also avoided sending classes home or to the hall for cover. I thank students for their patience and, for the most part, their positivity when things were less than ideal. I thank parents for their continued support and understanding, and I thank staff for going over and above every day. (more…)
