Connecting Classroom Learning to the World Around Us

After reading the novel Stone Cold and learning about the increasing number of homeless people in Scotland, our S2 class decided that they wanted to do something to help. As a result, they are committed to sleeping overnight in the school on 28th November to raise funds for the Social Bite’s Wee Sleepout which aims to end homelessness. Their drive and enthusiasm for the project has been inspiring; they have worked hard, using their English and Literacy skills to write permission letters, to research and to organise activities for the event.  In the lead up to the event, they will continue to work hard to lead efforts in fundraising and to get the whole school and local community involved. This is a great example of how work in the classroom can be extended and linked to the world around us.
