Head Teacher Update 20/4/23

Dear Parents and Carers

The Summer Term has got off to a really good start and I have been thanking students in assemblies for the outstanding respect and community support demonstrated by everyone at the end of term. I have also been highlighting some changes and reinforcing important messages, as detailed below.

Change to break and lunch time

During exam leave the school will be slightly quieter which will allow us to operate one break and one lunch each day. Although this has been communicated to students, I wanted to make you aware of the change to the timing of the school day.

The structure of the school week, detailed below, will apply to all students from Monday 24th April until the end of term. This is only really a change for current S2 and S3 students.

Better Relationships, Learning and behaviour – keeping you informed

Our mobile phone policy is working well and helping to make learning in the classroom more focussed, with fewer disruptions. Thank you for your support in reinforcing these important messages. Please follow the link below for a reminder of our policy.

In assemblies this week, we have been emphasising the importance of respecting everyone’s right to learn and make progress.  Students have been asked to think about their classroom behaviours and how they can affect other people positively or negatively.

If students are late to classes or have caused major disruption to learning during the day, we will expect them to pay back time after school the following day. We will inform you by email or text to let you know. We will also let you know of any disruptive behaviour which leads to a duty call.

Activities Week S1-3

Preparations for our two days of activities (24th and 25th May) are well under way. Students in S1-3 should all now have KIC forms which they must get signed and return to their Daily Morning Tutor by Thursday 27th April.

S6 last day

Although our S6 students will be back to sit their final exams and to participate in our annual Award Ceremony in June, Friday 21st April is their official last day at school. We will celebrate this together on Friday morning from 9:00am to 10:00am with coffee and cakes. We will share some stories, sign some shirts and take some photos at the front of the school. S6 will then be released to begin their exam leave (and, of course, make their own celebrations). They really have been an outstanding group of young people and I would like to thank them all for the fantastic contribution they have made and the support they have given to the school over the years. I also look forward to celebrating prom with them on Thursday 8th June.

Thanks, and best wishes
