In collaboration with a group of medical students and doctors, Science Insights are running an event on Monday 8th May called “You Can Be a Doctor!”
This is for S2/S3 pupils and their parents who are thinking about pursuing a career in medicine. They will hear from a practicing doctor, current medical students and a member of the team here to find out more about the medical profession and what they will need to be focussing on for the next few years. ‘Science Insights’ in an exciting work experience programme from the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. Forty current S5 secondary school pupils will spend five days (Monday 24th – Friday 29th July) following a varied programme of activities on four different University of Edinburgh campuses, gaining a real insight into research and work in biological sciences, medicine and veterinary medicine. Applications close on Monday 24th April!
Activities will include:
- Shadowing researchers in the workplace
- Tours of a range of scientific facilities
- Presentations, workshops and discussions on topics including research ethics, the use of animals in research and careers in science
- Opportunities to meet current University of Edinburgh students
- Skills sessions to help with future university and job applications
We welcome applications to Science Insights from students who are:
- In 5th year of secondary school (S5) and will be staying on for S6
- Enthusiastic and interested in biological sciences
- Able to attend all five days of the programme
